The St John Rescue Corps (SJRC) Annual Review was held on Saturday the 2nd of April. Various distinguished guests attended for this review including the Minister for Home Affairs and National Security the Hon. Carmelo Abela and a delegation of 12 senior officers from St John Ambulance Malaysia.
After the inspection of the Corps by Minister Abela, two rescue demonstrations were carried out; an aerial ropeway rescue and a rescue using a ladder as a derrick. Following these demonstrations, there was the official inauguration of the fire truck supplied by Merseyside Fire Rescue Services.
During his speech, Minister Abela recognized the Corps’ members dedication and commitment and said “It is very reassuring for the Maltese public to know that St John Rescue Corps is here to provide a backup rescue service to the Civil Protection Department. You have proven your capabilities at times of challenge, and for that, you have our gratitude.”
Certificates were then presented to members who had successfully completed training courses. Appointment certificates were presented. These included Rescue Volunteer Class I, Corporals, Sergeants, Rescue Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Commander & Commissioner. A certificate of appreciation was presented to Royal Life Saving Society Malta Branch. A Medal of Merit was awarded to Mapfre Middlesea for its continued support.
The Annual Review was concluded by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SJRC and St John Ambulance Malaysia in which it was agreed that the SJRC will be providing technical assistance in the development of the Malaysian Emergency Rescue Unit with the possibility of having training exchange programs between the two organisations.
